History:
Cale was born to Sam and Ruth Tucker in 3023. His mother, Ruth, died when he was 3 years old. Cale spent the next two years closely with his father. Though Sam was
busy with the Titan project, the two often spent time building things together. Cale inherited a talent for invention and science from his father.
On July 28th, 3028 - when Cale is 5 years old - the Drej attack and destroy Earth. In order to protect his son, Tucker leaves Cale with his alien colleague Tek.
Before they separate, Tucker promises to see Cale again and gives him a gold ring, telling him "as long as you wear it, there's hope". Cale escapes with Tek on The Guardian and
Tucker escapes on The Titan. The two never see each other again.
Cale spends the next ten years of his life living with Tek and his wife, Ryt, on their home planet, Vusstra. Tek and Ryt's adopted daughter, Iji, is born only a year after Cale arrives. Ryt dies when Cale
is 12. When Cale is 15, the Drej are spotted again. Tek attempts to take Cale away on the pretense of teaching him about solidarity. Cale meets another race nearly destroyed by the Drej - the Qu'utians - and accepts
their symbol of the Qu'utchaa (a sword through a spiked ring, "victory through persistence") as a tattoo on his right shoulder. During their trip Tek obtains the final materials he needs for the Vusstran Renewal Project
(using Tucker's terraformation technology). Iji goes to a traditional Vusstran boarding school, and Tek and Cale go to live on the Tau-14, where Cale works cutting scrap metal.
When Cale is 20, he meets Joseph Korso, another colleague of Tucker's. He activates Cale's gold ring, revealing a map to the Titan's hiding spot. The map is genetically encrypted to Cale so that only he can use it.
The Drej are not far behind Korso, and Cale is forced to join him on the quest to find the Titan, before the Drej destroy it. On Korso's ship, the Valkyrie, Cale meets Akima. Akima teaches him about the meaning
of the Titan to humanity. When Korso betrays Akima and Cale, they seek refuge on Drifter colony New Bangkok. Here Cale gets a first-hand perspective of humanity, and what solidarity really means. Determined to fulfill
their hopes, he and Akima, as well as the rest of the colony, work together to restore the Phoenix. Cale and Akima reach the Titan, with Korso and the Drej not far behind. Through Cale's ingenuity, he is able to use the
Drej's energy to power the dying Titan. The ship creates a whole new planet - New Earth (or "Planet Bob") - to reunite the human race.
Personality:
At age 20, Cale has built up a wealth of defenses in order to survive as a human in an alien universe. His mantra is "grab what you can before someone else beats you to it" - in his eyes, there is no solidarity left amongst humans,
just the day-to-day struggle to survive. He is cocky, arrogant, and defensive. He won't do anything for others unless there's something in it for him. He's bitter at his father for breaking his promise and abandoning him, so much so that he claims he never had a father;
he's lost his ability to trust. As the Titan journey unfolds, he starts to open up. Korso becomes a father figure, helping him cope with the disappointment of his father's broken promise. Akima helps him see that solidarity is still alive between humans,
and that there is more to life than what you can get. By the time they find the Titan, Cale's philosophy on life has completely turned around.
